Jawan Shoots Superior Over Leave Dispute

A jawan on election duty fired at his superior after he was denied leave for his wedding

Constable Lakshmi Kanta Burman of the Assam State Armed Police, shot his senior, Sub Inspector Bholanath Das from his service rifle, killing him on the spot. This took place on 2nd May, in Bagnan, which is in Howrah.

Burman was undergoing treatment for depression. His marriage was fixed for the 20th of may. He asked his senior, Sub Inspector Bholenath Das for leave, but he was denied leave. He fired 13 rounds, killing Das.

He also injured two of his colleagues, Senior Inspector Anil Rajbanshi, and Rontu Mani Bodhak, who are currently undergoing treatment. One of them is still critical and the other one is out of danger said the hospital sources.

Burman tried to flee the spot, but was caught by his other colleagues.
