Earlier Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez posted a mirror selfie with conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar on Instagram. She can be seen planting a kiss on conman's cheeks. This sparked a major controversy because Sukesh Chandrasekhar has been accused of cheating many on the pretext of giving jobs. Sukesh has been accused of extorting Rs 200 crore money from politicians and celebrities. Promoter of Religare Enterprises Shivinder Mohan Singh, was arrested in October 2019 in a case related to alleged misappropriation. Sukesh and his associates reportedly took money from his wife Aditi Singh after posing as government officials and promising to get bail for her husband. The case is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate. In August, ED officials had conducted raids at Chandrashekhar's sea-facing bungalow in Chennai and had found a fleet of 16 luxury cars worth crores of rupees.

Chandrasekhar and his actor wife Leena Maria Paul were arrested by the Delhi Police in September. The ED suspected that Chandrasekhar had extorted money from several people while he was in jail. The ED found that Sukesh had given gifts worth crores to several celebrities like Jacqueline fernandes and Nora Fatehi. Sukesh also used to speak to Jacqueline over his mobile phone even while he was in jail. He had spent crores to live comfortably in Tihar Jail. The actress has reportedly received expensive gifts worth crores from him. These gifts included diamond-studded jewellery sets, crockery, four Persian cats (cost of one cat is around Rs 9 lakh) and a horse worth Rs 52 lakh. Since August, Jacqueline has been summoned by ED several times for questioning regarding the case but she has always denied dating Sukesh. Sukesh allegedly spent around Rs 8 crore for his air travel in private jets when he was on bail. He also sent money to Jacqueline Fernandez's siblings. Now Sukesh & his wife are in the custody of the ED. On 5 December she left India from the Mumbai airport. However the airport authorities did not let her leave because of the ED’s case. She has been let go after brief questioning by the ED and has been informed that she has to appear before the probe agency in Delhi.
