IPL Match in Dharamshala Stopped

The IPL 2025 match in Dharamsala was stopped due to security concerns after an air raid alert, and BCCI has reportedly decided to cancel the remaining matches.

Tensions between India and Pakistan are increasing, and on the night of 8th May, drones and missiles targeted many Indian cities. But India’s defence systems stopped all the attacks successfully.

On the same day, an IPL 2025 match was being played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Dharamsala Stadium. The match was going on normally until Punjab had played 10.1 overs. Suddenly, one of the floodlight towers went off, and many thought it was a technical issue. But soon after, two more lights also went off.

There was no public announcement, but the local police and stadium staff started slowly asking the crowd to leave. IPL Chairperson Arun Dhumal was seen asking fans to exit the stadium. Players were quickly moved to their buses and taken back to their hotel. The evacuation was so fast that some players reached the hotel still wearing their playing gear.

A cheerleader from the match shared a video online, saying the situation was “very scary,” showing how tense the atmosphere had become.

Later, IPL confirmed on their official X (formerly Twitter) account that the match had been abandoned.

BCCI first said that the match stopped because of a power cut caused by technical failure. But some reports suggest that the lights were turned off due to security concerns after an air raid warning was given in nearby areas. Because of this, Dharamsala also went into blackout mode.

To keep the players safe, BCCI arranged a special train from Una (the nearest railway station) to Delhi. Punjab Kings’ next match against Mumbai Indians, which was earlier planned in Dharamsala on 11th May, has now been shifted to Ahmedabad.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said, “We are keeping an eye on the situation and talking to the Government. A final decision on the IPL will be taken tomorrow. Right now, the safety of players, staff, and fans is our top priority.”

But according to latest reports, BCCI has now decided to cancel the remaining matches of IPL 2025 due to the current tense situation.
