The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday 7th March announced the schedule for the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). This will be the 14th edition of the IPL. The opening match will take place between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 9. This match will be held in Chennai. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement, “In the beginning, no spectators will be allowed for the matches. But they will decide about allowing people to watch matches in the later stage.” He also said that, “ IPL schedule has been planned in such a way that teams will only have to travel 3 times during the league stage. This has been done to reduce travel and risk of COVID infection.” A total of 56 group matches and the Playoffs will be played across six venues that include Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai. The world's largest cricket stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, will host the IPL 2021 playoffs and the final on May 30. The stadium will be hosting IPLmatches for the 1st time. The afternoon matches will be held at 3:30 pm IST and evening matches will start at 7:30pm IST. Vivo was IPL’s title sponsor in 2019. But after military clashes at the India-China border in June 2020, people protested that IPL should not be connected with companies that are from China. This is why Vivo was replaced and Dream 11 sponsored IPL 2020. Now Vivo has returned as IPL's title sponsor for 2021.
