#JusticeForRabiya trends on Twitter with netizens demanding justice for the rape of 21 year old Rabiya Saifi in Delhi.

21 year old Rabiya Saifi, a civil defence officer associated with the office of Lajpat Nagar District Magistrate, was brutally murdered after allegedly being gang-raped in the national capital on 26 August. Her family members alleged that her both breasts were cut, her neck was slit and private parts were mutilated. Apart from that, there were several cut marks across her body. The police say a man identified as Nizamuddin has surrendered in connection with Rabiya’s murder. He said that the two had secretly been married in court because the Rabiya’s family did not approve of their marriage. After this, he accused Saifi of having an affair with someone else which was why he had decided to confront her. He took her to the Surajkund area of Faridabad, where he killed her. An FIR has been lodged at Surajkund Police Station in this regard. The family says that Rabiya was never married. They say the police are trying to close the case by saying her husband killed her and suspect that the District Magistrate’s office has something to do with the murder. Her father Samid Ahmad said that Rabiya had told him and her mother about a secret lock-up inside the DM office, where crores of rupees were kept. She had said that 3-4 lakh rupees used to come every day [allegedly through corrupt means. They say she was gangraped and killed because she knew about this. The family say the police are not at all cooperative and are not investigating the case properly. The family had demanded a CBI investigation.

The people’s anger is increasing day by day over the murder of Civil Defence volunteer Sabiya Saifi. Demands for justice to Sabiya are growing not only in Delhi but in Uttar Pradesh , Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, and other states where candle Marches are being held. Netizens took to Twitter demanding justice for a 21-year-old murdered in Faridabad. Since September 4, #JusticeForRabiya has been trending on the platform with over 70k tweets. Twitterati are questioning Delhi Police, national media agencies and social welfare groups on their silence regarding the issue.
