Indian Women Cricket Team Wins Asia Cup for the 7th Time

Indian Women’s team has won the Asia Cup for the 7th time defeating Sri Lanka on 15th of October in its final game.

The Indian cricket team is known for its brilliant performances in international tournaments, however now it's not just the men’s team which makes us proud but the Indian Women’s team is doing equally well over the past few years. Our girls have shown the world that not just the Indian men's team has the ability to win big tournaments, but the women of the country are also equally talented. The same has been proven by India on 15th of October who won the Women's Asia Cup T20 to win the title for the 7th time. The Women’s Asia Cup final was played between India and Sri Lanka. at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Sri Lankan Captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and opted to bat first. However, a superb bowling effort helped the Indian side in restricting the Lankans to 65 Runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.  The Indian side chased down the very small target of 66 runs against Sri Lanka in only 8.3 overs. The highlights of the final match also include Smriti Mandhana, who scored 51 not out off just 25 balls. While a win was more or less certain for the Indian team ever since it stopped Sri Lanka for a low total, Mandana's knock made the chase even easier. Renuka Singh Thakur claimed three wickets.

Soon after the Indian side won the Asia cup title, wishes of former cricketers, politicians, & fans started pouring on social media. The wishers include Yuvraj Singh, former opener & BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, former spinner Harbhajan Singh & several others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his happiness while congratulating the team on twitter. Film actress Kareena Kapoor too congratulated the team. What do you think about India’s win?
