Indian States Extend Lockdown Till June 2021

States like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Goa will now be under strict restrictions for another week. Watch our latest video to learn more about these restrictions.

Due to the 2nd wave of the coronavirus, many states had imposed strict restrictions to curb the spread of the virus. On 29th May, India recorded a single-day rise of 1,65,553 new COVID-19 cases. This is the lowest in 46 days. Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh have announced certain relaxation in the curbs however, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, etc. will now be under strict restrictions for another week to a fortnight. 

Kerala: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday 29th May announced the extension of the shutdown in the state till 9 June. As per the new lockdown guidelines, some of the rules will become less strict. Banks will remain open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with extended timings till 5 pm. Shops selling education books, textiles for weddings, jewellery and footwear will be open till 5 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  

Puducherry: The government in the UT has extended the Covid lockdown till midnight of 7 June. Going out for important work like buying vegetables, medicines, etc have been permitted and would be available from 5 am every day till 12pm. 

Tamil Nadu: The state-wide lockdown has been extended till 7 June. There has been no relaxation of the rules and the previous rules would continue. 

Maharashtra : Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on May 28, 2021 announced that the COVID restrictions in the state have been extended by 15 days to curb the spread of coronavirus. He also stated that a new set of guidelines will be issued on June 1. All essential shops that were allowed to remain open from 7am to 11am will now be allowed to remain open till 2pm. 

Karnataka: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said the question of extending the lockdown may not arise if the public cooperated and there is a decline in Covid-19 cases. The COVID restrictions in the state will last till 7 June.

Goa and Delhi have extended the restrictions till 7th June. However, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh are planning to make the restrictions less stringent very soon. In the Northeast, states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Meghalaya have extended the restrictions.
