Indian Players Suspended After U19 World Cup

The ICC has suspended 5 players from India and Bangladesh after an ugly brawl broke out after the U19 final world cup match.

The India vs Bangladesh final U19 World Cup match was held on 9th February 2020 in South Africa. 

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl. Since the start the Bangladesh bowlers were aggressive and got in the faces of the Indian batsmen. Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowled extremely well with the new ball but were also guilty of launching verbal volleys at the Indians. India scored a total of 177 all out in 47.2 overs.Then it was Bangladesh’s turn to bat. Bangladesh played well and tried to score runs. However since it started raining, Bangladesh won the match via the DLS method. They had scored 170/7 (42.1).

This is the first time Bangladesh has won the U19 World Cup. And after Bangladesh won, the emotions seemed to spill over for the victorious team as they aggressively charged onto the field, again getting into the faces of the dejected Indian players. It led to some ugly scenes after the final as the Indian players were fighting with the Bangladesh players and the umpires had to separate the few players.Now the ICC has said that 5 players will be given a 4-10 International match suspension. 

 

An ICC official said, The match was hard fought ..but the players got carried away with their emotions. The brawl that took place was very wrong and this is not how cricket is played.In cricket respect is very important and players must show self-discipline. If a team has won or lost they must congratulate each other.
