Indian Govt Announces New Rs 20 Coin

The Indian government has launched the new Rs 20 coin. This coin will not be the in usual circular shape, but it will be a 12-edged Dodecagon.

10 years ago the Indian government had announced the Rs 10 coin. Now they have decided to launch the Rs 20 coin. This coin will not be the usual circle. It will be a 12-edged Dodecagon which will be made using copper, zinc and nickel. It will be 2.7 cm in Diameter and it will weigh 8.54 grams.

The symbol of the Ashoka Pillar will be engraved on the coin with the famous quote “Satyameva Jayate” written below it. The words “Bharat” in hindi and “India” in English will be engraved on the coin.On the reverse side, the value of the coin which is Rs 20, will be engraved.The coin will also have design of grains which depict the agricultural heritage of the country

As per Coinage Act, 1906 only the government of India has the sole authority to mint coins and select the designs for the coins. Coins are minted at the four India Government Mints. At Mumbai, Alipore (Kolkata), Saifabad (Hyderabad), Cherlapally (Hyderabad) and Noida (UP). The government has not announced the date of when the coins will begin circulating among the public.The government is also planning to launch now Rs1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10 coins.
