India Wins 5th U19 Cricket World Cup

India has reached the finals of the Under-19 World cup 8 times and this was India’s 5th Under-19 World cup win.

The ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup is where national under-19 teams contest.  It was first played in 1988. After that it was not played. Then again it started in 1998. It is played every 2 years. 

 

This year's tournament was an extremely challenging ride for the Indian team as multiple players were infected by the coronavirus and at one stage even struggled to field eleven fit personnel. ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 was being played in the West Indies. The final of the tournament was held on 5th February between India and England. England won the toss and chose to bat. India bowled very well and England had lost 7 wickets for only 91 runs. But then James Rew played well and scored 95 runs. England were all out for 189. Raj Bawa took 5 wickets and Ravi Kumar took 4 wickets. India had to score 190 runs to win. India started its batting but lost the first wicket with the score being 0. Nishant Sindhu’s 50 not out and Raj Bawa’s 35 runs took India closer to victory. And in the end Dinesh Bana finished off the match by smashing 2 sixes and making India win. 

India has reached the finals of the Under-19 World cup 8 times and has won the cup 4 times. This was India’s 5th Under-19 World cup win. Earlier India had won in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and now 2022. 

After the match Captain Yash Dhull said, "It's a proud moment for India.We kept cool minds and focused.” It was a proud moment for all Indians and netizens congratulated the team on social media. An interesting fact is that earlier, MS Dhoni had scored the winning runs of the World Cup with a six. Now similarly in U-19 World Cup the winning runs were scored by hitting a six.
