India’s Rishi Sunak Elected as the UK Prime Minister

Now, when the government led by the prime minister Liz Truss toppled, Rishi Sunak would be taking over as the Prime Minister of UK

After the former United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned from his position, there was a very strong possibility the Indian IT tycoon Narayana Murthy & Sudha Murthy’s son-in-law could become the next prime minister of the UK. However, after the voting was conducted, another candidate, Liz Truss (woman) was elected as the UK’s Prime Minister around 2 months back. In the same voting, Rishi Sunak turned out to be the second highly voted candidate.

 

Notably, the government, led by Liz Truss, lasted just for 49 days. And now on 25th of October, she finally decided to resign from her position after protests were held against inflation and living costs in the United Kingdom. Rishi Sunak would be taking over as the Prime Minister's position as he was earlier the second highest voted candidate. 42 Years old- Rishi Sunak, who is also the youngest prime minister in over the last 200 years in the history of the UK. He was officially appointed as the PM of the UK by King Charles III. Sunak in his speech said that Liz Truzz could not continue as the PM of the UK because she had proposed a very bad financial budget. The budget was aimed at promoting growth, but it had many mistakes in it. He promised to work hard and help the UK develop.  After his appointment as the latest prime minister of the UK, political leaders around the world, including US president Joe Biden, France’s Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated him.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared a tweet congratulating Rishi Sunak for his election as the new prime minister. After his appointment, many in India were very happy to see an Indian as the PM of UK. Many joked that now that we have an Indian as the head of the UK, we may finally get the Kohinoor diamond back.
