The Indian Under-19 Women’s cricket team has made history by winning the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time. The final match took place on 2nd February 2025, at the Bayuemas Oval cricket stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. India defeated South Africa by 9 wickets to clinch the title.

This victory is especially remarkable as it is India’s second straight win in the tournament. The Indian team dominated from start to finish, with outstanding performances from all players, particularly Gongadi Trisha, who was the star of the final.

South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first, but India’s spin attack, led by Trisha, quickly put them under pressure. South Africa struggled throughout their innings, reaching just 33/3 at the halfway point. Despite some resistance from Fay Cowling and Mike van Voorst, South Africa was bowled out for just 82 runs on the final ball of their innings. Trisha’s excellent bowling performance earned her figures of 3/15.

The target of 83 runs was never a problem for the defending champions. Trisha and Kamalini G opened the innings for India and set the pace with some early boundaries. Trisha remained not out on 44 runs from 33 balls, hitting 8 boundaries. Sanika Chalke, the vice-captain, supported her well with an unbeaten 26 runs from 22 balls. With the target in sight, Sanika sealed the victory with a boundary to the square-leg region, sparking wild celebrations from the Indian team.

India’s win was the perfect end to a flawless campaign, where the team remained undefeated throughout the tournament. India won all their group-stage matches against the West Indies, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. In the Super Six, they defeated Bangladesh and Scotland, before overcoming England in the semi-finals.

Gongadi Trisha was the standout player of the tournament. Her all-round brilliance, with 3 wickets for 15 runs in the final and an unbeaten 44 runs, earned her the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards. Trisha finished as the top run-scorer of the tournament with 309 runs, a remarkable achievement for a young player.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a generous reward of ?5 crores for the winning team and their support staff, including Head Coach Nooshin Al Khadeer, for their hard work and dedication in this historic victory.
