India’s Population Might Overtake China by 2023

On World Population Day which was celebrated on 11th July, the United Nations has released a report projecting India to overtake China as the world’s most populous country by next year.

On World Population Day which was celebrated on 11th July, the United Nations has released a report. In the report they stated that the world’s total population is about to reach eight billion by the mid of -November 2022.Currently, Asia is the most populous continent with 4.7 billion which is about 61% of the world's total population. The second highest populous continent is Africa with 1.3 billion people which is 17 percent. The third most populous continent is Europe with 750 million people which is 10 percent of total population. 

According to  World Population Prospects 2019, China with a 1.44 billion population and India with 1.39 billion are the two most populous countries in the world, holding 19 & 18 percent of the world’s population respectively. India will overtake China as the world’s most populous country by next year and become the most populous country. However, the constantly growing population and shortage of resources is an issue to be taken care of and it's high time that India should implement serious steps on birth control and population growth.
