Husband Strangles Wife For Getting Her Period on Honeymoon: FIR Filed
A woman from Uttar Pradesh has accused her husband of assaulting and trying to strangle her during their honeymoon after she got her period, with police now investigating the case.
A woman from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, has alleged that her husband assaulted and tried to strangle her during their honeymoon in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands after she got her period.
According to the FIR, she married Delhi resident Nikhil Mishra on 20 May 2023 and moved to her husband's home in Delhi on 2 June 2023. She also alleged that before the wedding, her in-laws insisted that the gifts given to them should be branded.
The woman claimed that her father gave around Rs.20 lakh in cash, a car and other items worth about Rs.40 lakh at the time of the marriage. She alleged that her in-laws later taunted and insulted her over these gifts.
About a month after the wedding, on 4 July 2023, the couple travelled to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for their honeymoon. During the trip, she got her period and suffered severe stomach pain and heavy bleeding.
She alleged that her husband became angry, accused her of ruining the trip, and slapped, kicked, and punched her before trying to strangle her. According to her complaint, hotel staff rushed to the room after hearing her screams and stopped the assault.
After returning to Delhi, the woman said she informed her mother-in-law and sister-in-law about the incident. Instead of supporting her, she alleged that they mentally harassed and insulted her.
She further alleged that her husband later called her father to Delhi and asked him to take her back. Despite attempts to settle the dispute, she claimed her family was insulted, and she was thrown out of her matrimonial home on 14 July 2023, around 45 days after her marriage.
The woman also alleged that her belongings were not returned and that her husband continued sending threatening messages. According to her family, they tried several times to register a police complaint but were unsuccessful.
An FIR was finally registered on 15 August 2026, more than three years after the alleged incidents. The FIR names Nikhil Mishra for physical assault and also includes allegations of mental harassment against his mother and sister. Police are now investigating the case.
