Heavy Rains in Tamil Nadu and Heatwave in Lucknow

Widespread rain in Tamil Nadu; Lucknow schools' timings revised due to a heatwave amid heavy rainfall across India.

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Center has informed that there are prospects for widespread rain in 13 districts today from 27th July. There are prospects for rain in the districts of Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thirupathur, Vellore, Ranippettai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Villupram. The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Mumbai centre had issued a 'red' alert for Mumbai and neighbouring Raigad district predicting "heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places". Amid the incessant rainfall in Telangana for the past few days, the state government on Thursday announced a holiday for all the schools, colleges, and educational institutions across the state. Hundreds of cars were submerged in flood water from the Hindon River after excessive rains in Noida city in northern India. People living near its banks had to move to higher ground, and residents found it difficult to commute on heavily waterlogged roads, which also led to traffic jams. While it’s raining across India, in Lucknow the district administration revised the school timings for students of classes 1-8 in view of a heatwave. District magistrate Suryapal Gangwar announced that school timings for the students of classes 1 to 8 in all government, government-aided, and other recognized private schools will be from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm. The revised timings will remain in place till further orders. Besides, teachers engaged in administrative and other management-related work will stay back for an hour after the classes.
