Headless Body Wrapped in Plastic Bag Found on Juhu Beach, Mumbai

A 40-year-old man from Malad West was allegedly killed over a personal dispute, and his remains were later found at Juhu Beach, leading to the arrest of a suspect in Mumbai.

Mumbai was left shocked after partial human remains were found at Juhu Beach on the morning of February 9, 2026.

People were out for their regular morning walk near Santacruz West when they noticed a blue plastic bag floating close to the shore. When it was opened, the upper half of a man’s body was found inside. The police were immediately informed.

Santacruz Police reached the spot and sent the remains to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Initially, the identity of the deceased was unknown. Police checked missing person reports across the city. One complaint from Malvani matched the timeline. A woman had reported her husband missing on February 4, stating that he had not returned home since January 29.

She later identified a stone ring found on the body, confirming that the deceased was Ashok Gaud, a 40-year-old carpenter from Malad West.

After confirming his identity, police began examining CCTV footage and other evidence. The investigation led them to suspect Wahid Ali Israil Sheikh, also known as Mittu, a 30-year-old man working in the garment business.

According to police, on January 29, Wahid had called Ashok to a garment storage unit in Malvani. The two reportedly consumed alcohol, during which an argument broke out. Police allege that Wahid attacked Ashok during the dispute, leading to his death.

Investigators say the body was later disposed of in parts in a nearby drain connected to the sea. The remains eventually drifted and washed up at Juhu Beach. A search is still ongoing for the remaining parts.

Police believe the incident may be linked to a personal dispute. During investigation, officers found that Wahid was allegedly in a relationship with Ashok’s wife, Pratibha, for the past few years. Ashok had reportedly confronted Wahid about this matter in January.

Wahid was arrested on February 10 from Ghatkopar West. He has been charged under Indian law for murder and destruction of evidence. Police said he confessed during questioning.

Pratibha has also been questioned to understand whether she had any knowledge of the events. Officials said the investigation is still ongoing and more details may emerge.

A local court has sent Wahid to police custody until at least February 13, while police continue to gather evidence and complete the probe.
