Srishti Tuli, 25, was the first female pilot from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She worked for Air India and has been living in Mumbai for work since June 2023.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath even felicitated her for her achievement.
She had a 27-year-old boyfriend named Aaditya Pandit, who lived in Delhi.
According to the reports, Srishti had met Aaditya during her pilot course training in Delhi 2 years ago & soon began a relationship.
They both went on to become pilots but only Srishti got a job as a commercial pilot with Air India while Aaditya remained unemployed.
Aaditya was visiting Srishti in the last week of November 2024.
On 25th November 2024, Shrishti was found hanging from the ceiling with a data cable late at night at her apartment in the Kanakia Rain Forest building in the Marol, Andheri East.
Srishti’s family accused Aaditya of provoking Srishti’s suicide.
Srishti’s uncle Vivek Kumar has filed a complaint against Aaditya at the Powai Police Station under BNS Section 108 - Abetment of Suicide on the night of Srishti’s death itself.
Vivek Kumar claimed that Srishti had confined his daughter, Rashi about the complications of her relationship. She admitted feeling trapped because of her love for Aditya despite the difficulties.
Vivek Kumar told the police that Aaditya harassed Srishti by extorting money from her & forcing her to stop eating non-vegetarian food.
He revealed that:
- Srishti had spoken to her mother & aunty cheerfully 15-20 minutes before the incident & had shown no sign of being sad or mentally distressed.
- Srishti had transferred ?65,000 to one of Aaditya’s family members during Diwali, and
- Aaditya had insulted & humiliated Srishti for consuming non-veg food at an event.
- Aaditya would block her phone number over petty disagreements.
Vivek Kumar said, “We have managed to check only one month's statement so far…I am convinced that he was blackmailing her. I have now asked the bank for the whole year's statement. Maybe, she had refused him money and that became the cause of her death.”
He also told the police about an incident from last year. He said that Aaditya had borrowed his car in November 2023 to take Srishti and her cousin Rashi shopping in Delhi.
During the outing, an argument broke out, and Aaditya allegedly used abusive language against Srishti in Rashi’s presence. He then rammed the car into another vehicle.
Vivek Kumar claims that Aaditya was visibly unaffected by the incident.
The police arrested Aaditya on 26th November 2024.
According to the police, Aaditya didn’t cooperate during the interrogation. He also didn’t give the police Srishti’s phone’s password despite knowing it.
During the initial investigation, Mumbai Police learnt that Srishti & Aaditya had a big fight before the incident. Srishti had insisted to Aaditya to stay with her for a few more days to talk & work out their issues, but he declined and left for Delhi by car at around 1 am.
Soon Srishti started video-calling him several (10-11) times, telling him that she would end her life if he didn’t return.
After that, Aaditya immediately rushed to Mumbai and found the door of her flat locked from inside. He opened the door with the help of a key-maker and found Tuli hanging with a data cable.
Srishti was rushed to the Seven Hills Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
The police didn't find any suicide note in the house. They suspect Aaditya of:
- destroying the suicide note,
- deleting some of Srishti’s messages on his phone, and
- hiding vital information.
Srishti’s last rites were performed on 27th November 2024 in Gorakhpur.
On 29th November 2024, Aaditya was presented in the court, which ordered him to remain in police custody till 2nd December 2024. The police are investigating the case further.
Srishti’s alleged suicide highlights the importance of awareness, counselling and helping people suffering from mental health issues & suicidal thoughts.
