Goa Swimming Coach Accused of Rape

Surajit Ganguly, the coach of the Goa swimming team was accused of sexual assault by a 15-year-old girl. This news has created an uproar in the sports fraternity. Watch the video to learn more!

Surajit Ganguly is a former Indian swimmer from West Bengal. He has won many medals at the different Asian championships.He is the coach for the Goa swimming team. In 2017, he was honoured by the Goa State Assembly for making the state proud by training the swimming team. 

On 4th September A 15-year-old gold medalist swimmer said that Ganguly had sexually assaulted her for the past 6-months. She gave all this information on her social media page. She said that she had a very bad experience with him in Goa. The coach would touch her inappropriately, harass her and threatened her not to tell anyone. She said that he even went to her house and misbehaved with her.

The girl lodged a complaint at the police station in Hooghly on thursday. Her father sent an e-mail of the complaint to the Goa Police. The Goa registered a case against him under the POCSO Act and tried to find him but he was missing. The girl’s post on social media has gone viral. On 4th September Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said that strict action will be taken against the coach. He has the police to find him immediately. On 5th september Rijiju tweeted and said that the Goa Swimming Association has canceled her contract . He even asked the Swimming Federation of India to make sure he is not given a job anywhere in India.
