Girl Thrown Out of Shop for Not Wearing Burqa

In Assam a girl was thrown out of a shop and shamed for wearing jeans and not wearing a burqa.

At a store in Biswanath Chariali in Assam a girl had gone to buy a pair of earphones. The owner of the shop, Nurul Amin, not only denied her service but also allegedly shamed the girl for wearing jeans instead of a burqa. He then pushed her out of the shop. The girl then complained to her father about this. When her father went to the shop to ask the shopkeeper why he did this to his daughter he was beaten up by family members of the shopkeeper. Police arrived at the shop and arrested the shopkeeper and 2 other persons. The father said, “These people are trying to bring down the Taliban system in Assam and forcing girls to wear burqas and Hijab. We are born and brought up in Assam and follow Assamese culture. She studied Assamese culture but now these people are trying to make her follow the Taliban style by wearing burqa and Hijab.” An investigation is now being carried out.
