Girl Who Abused PM Modi During NEET Protest Apologises; Video Goes Viral

Delhi Police may not take action against a minor girl after her apology over abusive remarks against PM Modi during the NEET protests, sparking a debate on free speech.

During the NEET protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, a video of a young girl using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and making offensive remarks about his late mother went viral on social media. The video received strong reactions from people across the country.

After the video surfaced, Delhi Police registered a Zero FIR and started an investigation. The FIR reportedly described the girl as 25 years old.

As the controversy grew, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the incident during a public event. He said the entire country and the world had seen what happened at Jantar Mantar. He said abusive language has no place in a civilised society and that both he and his late mother had been insulted. However, instead of asking for strict punishment, he appealed to people to stay calm. Calling the protesters "misguided children," he urged people to forgive them, guide them in the right direction, and not file cases against them.

Soon after, another video went viral in which the same girl apologised with folded hands. She said she had been influenced by some people at the protest and admitted that what she did was wrong. She called it her "first and last mistake." While the FIR described her as 25 years old, she claimed she was only 15 years old. She apologised to the Prime Minister and the entire country.

Later, the girl, identified in media reports as Ruchika Singh from Noida, released another statement. She said she apologised on her own and that nobody had forced or pressured her. She also claimed that some YouTubers had influenced her during the protest. Her mother appealed to the authorities to withdraw the FIR.

According to reports, Delhi Police has decided not to take legal action after finding that the girl is a minor. However, other reports say the Zero FIR has not yet been formally withdrawn, and the legal process is still continuing.

The incident has sparked a nationwide debate about freedom of speech, the limits of protests, the influence of social media, and how minors should be treated in such cases.

The Congress criticised Prime Minister Modi's remarks, saying that while people were expecting an apology from him, he instead chose to "forgive the country."

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) also questioned the FIR. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said that although abusive language can be condemned, using criminal law in such cases is not justified. He also questioned whether using abusive language should be treated as a criminal offence.
