Flash Floods in Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh

Floods have wreaked havoc in the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Hundreds of tourists are stuck and the floods have destroyed hundreds of hectares of agricultural land.

Yesterday on 18th August 2019, there were heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. 28 people died and 22 are missing in. Hundreds of tourists were stuck in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as there were dangerous floods and landslides in the states. Himachal Pradesh received its highest ever single-day rainfall. Around 670 roads and 13 national highways have been blocked in HP due to landslides. Six bridges were washed away due to the floods. Himachal suffered a property loss of Rs 490 crore. 

Floods in Uttarakhand have caused a lot of destruction as well. Hundreds of hectares of agriculture land and many of the cattle have died. Water, electricity, telephone and internet services have been shut in all these areas. According to IMD officials in Shimla, the rain will reduce today. A flood alert was issued in parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh as well because of the continuous rainfall has lead to the overflowing of the Yamuna river and other rivers.
