The Central Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 4th January announced that 38 people in the country have been found to be carrying the fresh strain of Covid so far.

Maharashtra State Health Minister Rajesh Tope told the media, “Eight passengers who returned from Britain have been found positive for the fresh strain of Covid. Five of them are from Mumbai and one each from Pune, Thane and Mira Bhayander. Contact tracing is underway.”

CM Uddhav Thackeray on 4th January 2021 conducted a meeting to discuss the preparations for the Covid vaccination in Maharashtra. According to an official statement from the CM’s office, passengers returning from the UK to Maharashtra have been taking flights to airports outside Maharashtra and then travelling to Mumbai to avoid quarantine.

The Health Minister had asked the people to not panic and requested everyone to follow the rules and regulations laid down by the authorities.  According to the ICMR chief, all the patients carrying the strain have been kept in single-room isolation in designated Covid care facilities arranged by the respective states. Covaxin would prove to be better than all the other vaccines against the fresh mutant strain.
