First Cricket Match After COVID Outbreak
After a hiatus of 116 days due to the COVID outbreak, the first match between England Vs West Indies was held yesterday.
After a hiatus of 116 days, International cricket started yesterday on 8th July 2020. England Vs West Indies played their first test match at the Ageas Bowl cricket stadium in the UK. The stadiums were completely empty. Due to rains, the toss was delayed. England won the toss and chose to bat. Before starting the match, both England and West Indies players knelt on their knees with one arm raised to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Black Lives Matter is a movement that creates awareness about the racism faced by black people in America and across the world. The players had even printed the BLM logo on the collar of their jersey. Due to the rains, the match had to be stopped after 17.4 overs. England had scored 35/1. The people working in the stadium are being checked daily to make sure they are fit. Due to the COVID outbreak, many rules have been put in place during the match. To ensure safety, players are not allowed to use saliva to polish the ball. Umpires will not take caps, jackets or sweaters from players.
