COVID-19 in India: The first case of the coronavirus in India was located in Kerala on 30th January through a medical student who had returned from Wuhan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a lockdown from 24th March.
Migrant Exodus: The lockdown impacted nearly 40 million migrants. Many of them travelled thousands of kilometres on foot to reach their villages, others travelled by the special Shramik trains.
India-China clashes: During the night between 15th June and 16th June in a hand to hand combat, 20 Indian army personnel were killed. The Indian Government banned many apps developed in China.
Cyclone Amphan: Cyclone Amphan caused widespread destruction in West Bengal in May 2020. 72 people died and there were losses of nearly Rs 1 lakh crores.
Sushant Singh Rajput passes away: A death that shook an entire nation, actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra residence on 14th June. The death was treated as a suicide. The case was handed over to the CBI.
India Elected to UNSC: India was formally elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a period of two years on 18th June 2020 with an overwhelming majority.
Construction of Ram Temple begins in Ayodhya: On 5th August Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation brick for the Ram Temple to be constructed in Ayodhya.
Bihar Elections: Bihar assembly elections held in October and November were the first to be held during the pandemic. Nitish Kumar came back to power as the CM of the state.
Mumbai Indians Win IPL 2020: The 13th season of the IPL was postponed due to the lockdown and was held between September and November in the United Arab Emirates. Mumbai Indians won the title for the fifth time.
