Election Commission Announces Lok Sabha Election 2024 Dates

The Election Commission announced the world’s largest poll; the Lok Sabha election dates on 16th March 2024. It will be held in 7 phases starting from 19th April till 1st June 2024.

The much-awaited Lok Sabha Elections of 2024 is here. The Election Commission of India announced Lok Sabha election dates on 16th March 2024. This Lok Sabha 2024 elections will be the world’s largest poll to elect the 543-member Lok Sabha. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that more than 97 crore voters (49.7 crore male and 47.1 crore female) are eligible to cast their votes across 10.5 lakh polling booths this year. This year 1.8 crore are first-time voters. Over 55 lakh Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) will be used & 1.5 crore polling officials will be deployed to manage these booths. The elections will be held in 7 phases starting from 19th April till 1st June 2024 and the counting of votes will be held on 4th June 2024. The entire election process, from the announcement of polls on 16th March 2024 to the declaration of results on 4th June 2024 will take a total of 82 days. The elections are being held in multiple phases for some states because these states have higher numbers of seats in Lok Sabha.

19th April 2024:

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Jammu & Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Puducherry.

26th April 2024: 

Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir.

7th May 2024:

Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Jammu & Kashmir

13th May 2024:

Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir.

20th May 2024:

Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh.

25th May 2024:

Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, NCT of Delhi.

1st June 2024:

Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Chandigarh.

The election panel is taking several measures to ensure honest & safe elections.

  • Drone-based checking at borders, 

  • a crackdown on misleading advertisements and fake news

  • Strict actions against bribery, misinformation & poll violence 

The election commission also announced assembly elections (state elections) will also simultaneously take place in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh & Odisha.
