Dhoni Not Retiring For Now

In a major cricket scandal, a senior played who is rumoured to be MS Dhoni flouted the CoA’s rules and invited his wife to stay with him for the entire duration of the World Cup.

Earlier when cricket became very famous in India, the BCCI was known for its monopoly and corruption. To make sure the BCCI followed the rules, the Supreme Court of India appointed the Committee of Administrators (CoA) on 30th January 2017. According to one of the rules of the CoA, during any tournament a cricketer's family is not allowed to stay with them for more than 15 days. On 3rd May a senior member of the Indian Cricket team requested the CoA allow his family to stay with him for more than 15 days for the World Cup. The CoA rejected his request.

The senior cricketer broke the rules. His wife stayed with him the entire 7-week duration of the World Cup. He did not take permission from the Captain Virat Kohli or the Coach Ravi Shastri. On 8 April, the captain and the coach had requested the CoA to change the rules and not allow families to travel with players for the first 20 days of the World Cup instead of allowing them to stay for 15 days. They also requested that families of the players should not travel in the team bus. A BCCI official said that this is a very awkward situation. The Captain of the Indian team followed the rule but his senior refused to follow it. The BCCI is very unhappy about this. After this incident, the CoA has decided to let the Captain and Coach decide if and when families are allowed to stay with the players.

Many say the cricketer who broke the rule was MS Dhoni.  The players were not allowed to invite their wives before 26th June. However, Sakshi Dhoni attended India’s World Cup opening match on 5th June and stayed for the entire duration of the tournament. Sakshi uploaded pictures on Instagram as well. He may face punishment for breaking the rules.

There have been many rumours about whether MS Dhoni will retire or not. After the World Cup ended, Chief Selector M S K Prasad had a “discussion” with Dhoni. Dhoni said that he would not retire for now but he would not be involved in cricket for sometime. The selector will now focus on selecting youngsters to take part in the tournament. He will not participate in the West Indies Tour. He is taking a 2-month break to train with the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Army. Rishabh Pant will be the No.1 choice to replace Dhoni as wicket keeper in the West Indies tour.
