Dharmendra Pradhan's Resignation, PM Modi’s New World Record
Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Education Minister following the NEET paper leak controversy, bringing the month-long CJP protests to an end.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced his resignation through a post on X, taking responsibility for the problems related to the NEET UG examination.
In his statement, Pradhan said he had always worked for students and education and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to serve as Education Minister. He said that after the paper leak came to light, the government handed the case to the CBI, cancelled the exam, conducted a re-exam, and decided that NEET would be held in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode from next year. He added that he was resigning to prevent the situation from becoming worse and to stop anti-national forces from taking advantage of the protests.
According to reports, Pradhan wanted to resign when the protests first began. However, senior BJP leaders reportedly asked him to wait, and the resignation was announced only after the party decided the timing was right. He became the first Union Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government to resign under public pressure in the last 12 years.
Experts believe the resignation was influenced by several factors, including pressure from the protests, the government's dependence on alliance partners in Parliament, and the need to avoid further disruption during the Monsoon Session so that important Bills could be passed.
After Pradhan's resignation, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) ended its month-long protest.
Delhi Police later started taking action against abusive social media posts targeting Prime Minister Modi. Notices were sent to several social media platforms asking them to remove videos, comments, and posts containing abusive language.
One viral video showed Dibisa Mahanta at a CJP protest in Assam raising a slogan containing abusive words against the Prime Minister. Dibisa Mahanta is the daughter of Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta, who is part of the BJP-led NDA government. Soon after the video went viral, her social media account was deleted or deactivated.
At the same time, many people came out in support of Prime Minister Modi, saying personal attacks against him were unacceptable. His recent videos on anti-paper leak measures also went viral and received millions of views. One of his Instagram Reels reportedly crossed 303 million views within 24 hours, breaking the previous record held by IShowSpeed and highlighting the Prime Minister's strong reach on social media.
