Delhi Woman Beaten For Feeding Dogs

Members of an animal shelter called 'Neighborhood Woof' in Delhi were thrashed by local residents in Delhi's Rani Bagh area.

Members of an animal shelter were thrashed by local residents on Friday (3 July) in Delhi's Rani Bagh area when they had gone there to rescue stray dogs. Ayesha Christina, who runs an NGO called 'Neighborhood Woof' in Delhi, has claimed that she along with staff members of the organisation were helping local street dogs when residents attacked them. A badly wounded Ayesha has even narrated the whole incident in a video she shot at the Azadpur Police Station in Delhi. In the video Christina said, "I am standing at Azadpur Police Station. We have just been beaten up while catching dogs. Someone came and spoke to our staff badly. We are supposed to shut up and take this nonsense all the time. When we decided to stand up,  for our voices to be heard, this is what is done to us,”  Ayesha says pointing to her face and clothes soaked in blood.

Ayesha then shows her colleagues, Vipin, Abhishek, Deepak, who were also injured by the alleged attack.

She also shows their damaged car in the video and says, "this is the state of our car". Ayesha then points the camera towards inattentive police officers and says "this is how seriously we are taken. "This is now routine in our country. This is what we have become used to dealing with. It's nothing new, this is what happens all the time," Ayesha further says. Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal Tweeted, "It's so shameful that a girl who has been working for the voiceless creatures of god was assaulted so brutally! The DCW team was in constant touch with her and an FIR has finally been registered. We will ensure strongest action," Delhi Police in a statement said, In view of late-night hours at around 10:30 pm on July 3 local residents enquired about the identities of the members of the NGO on which a heated argument broke out. When the people from the NGO tried to flee from the spot in their car, three local residents were hit by their car and got some minor injuries,” Delhi Police also said that further investigation in the matter is under progress.
