Delhi Government Officer Rapes Minor Girl

Delhi government officer Premoday Khakha has been arrested for raping a 14-year-old minor girl who was placed in his care repeatedly over three months. This is a very shocking news. Here is what happened. Premoday Khakha, is an associate director at Delhi's Women and Child Development Department. Khakha also works as a nodal officer for the implementation of programs of juvenile justice (JJ) and the Integrated Child Protection Scheme. He is also a member of the drafting committee for JJ (Care and Protection of Children) Rules. Seema Rani, A 14-year-old girl was living with him and his wife. She was admitted to the hospital as she was getting anxiety and panic attacks. The girl, who is now undergoing treatment at a hospital, said Khakha was a long-time friend of her father's. Following her father's death in 2020, the girl's mother sent her to stay with Khakha and his wife. She was raped repeatedly between November 2020 and January 2021. She even said that his wife forcefully fed her abortion pills to terminate her pregnancy. Doctors immediately alerted the police. The accused Khakh and his wife, realized that the cops are going to arrest them. On 21 August 2023, Khakha and his wife Seema Rani left their home in a car around 9.35 am. There is footage of a CCTV camera near their home.The visuals show their car moving through the lanes near their home, shortly before the couple were arrested. Khakha was in touch with a lawyer and had planned to seek anticipatory bail from a court. But before he could do so, he was arrested from near his home in north Delhi's Burari. The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the accused man under numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Furthermore, the wife of the accused has also been charged under several IPC sections along with IPC Section 313 (causing miscarriage without a woman's consent). Furthermore, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered the suspension of the accused government official amid public outrage.  Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal also demanded a probe against the accused. Swati Maliwal also sat on a dharna at a hospital on Monday, claiming that she was prevented from meeting the girl. Swati Maliwal requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to direct the Delhi Police to allow her to meet with the minor girl. In a letter to Shah, she also urged the home minister to order an inquiry as Khakha was arrested 8 days late. She also demanded the girl be shifted to AIIMS for better treatment.
