Prior to the trip, the woman was in touch with a Pakistani man named Muhammad Imran who is also Deaf. The woman’s husband was aware of this. On 23rd November when the couple reached Pakistan for the pilgrimage, the woman decided she wanted to marry Imran. First she divorced her husband at a Pakistan Court and then got married to Imran in a Nikkah ceremony. Kaur then changed her name to Parveen Sultana. However even though she married Imran who is a Pakistani citizen Kaur was not allowed to stay in Pakistan as she had gone there for a pilgrimage. On 26 November she had to return to India via the Wagah-Attari international border with her 1st husband.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) President Paramjit Singh Sarna said, ‘We appeal to all those travelling to Pakistan for pilgrimage to only take darshan and come back. We request everyone to not do such deeds as they are very embarrassing. Such marriages create controversies and can even lead to a ban on Sikh pilgrimage to Pakistan.”
