Cloudburst In Uttarakhand Damages Houses & Shops

Several shops and houses have been damaged because of a cloudburst at Uttarakhand's Devprayag.

On 11th May, In Uttarakhand's Devprayag, several shops and houses were damaged because of a cloudburst. Cloudburst, is a sudden, very heavy rainfall, usually in a particular area and is of brief duration. According to officials, the cloudburst hit at around 5 pm yesterday. Since most of these shops were closed due to Covid restrictions, no injury has been reported. Uttarakhand police chief Ashok Kumar, “No casualties have been reported yet. SDRF teams are on their way to the spot. The water level in the area is rising.” More details awaited. 

Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat tweeted that no life was lost in the incident. He has sought a detailed report from the district administration about the damage. This comes months after over 200 people died or went missing in the state's Chamoli after a glacial break triggered flash flood in Rishiganga river.
