Class 9 Chhattisgarh Girl Hangs Herself, Accuses Principal of Molestation
A Class 9 girl in Chhattisgarh died by suicide after accusing her school principal of sexual harassment.
A shocking incident has come to light from Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh, where a 15-year-old Class 9 girl died by suicide inside the study room of her school hostel on Sunday, 23rd November 2025. The girl was found hanging with a saree when other students were outside. Police were informed immediately and a post-mortem confirmed the cause of death.
During the investigation, police recovered a handwritten suicide note in which the girl accused the school principal, Kuldipan Topno, of molesting and sexually harassing her about a week before the incident. Reports say the harassment took place when she was sweeping a classroom. She had told her friends about it but did not inform her parents. The note also alleged that the principal threatened her later.
Following this, the principal was arrested the next day on charges including abetment to suicide, sexual harassment under the POCSO Act, cruelty under the Juvenile Justice Act, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigations also revealed that the hostel attached to the school was operating without the necessary government approvals. The hostel had 33 students living on the premises out of a total of 127 students, but it did not have the required legal permission or safety certification. This raises serious concerns about student safety, management, and whether rules meant to protect children were followed.
A joint team of education, tribal, and police officials has been formed to probe the case in detail. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered under Bagicha SDM Pradeep Rathiya, who will examine evidence and submit a report to identify failures and responsibility.
The incident has sparked public anger and discussions about student safety, the responsibility of school administrations, and the need for strict checks on hostels, especially in tribal and rural areas. The girl’s family is cooperating fully with the investigation, and the police have assured that all legal steps will be taken to ensure justice.
