China's Liu Becomes Father and Mother

A 59-year-old Chinese woman, born with both male and female reproductive organs, has gone viral for her unique life story of being both a mother and father to her children.

A 59-year-old woman from China, Liu, has become a viral sensation after sharing her unique life story on social media. Born with both male and female reproductive organs, Liu’s journey has fascinated many people worldwide.

Liu, who identifies as a woman on her official documents, has had two marriages. Her first marriage was to a man, and the second to a woman. Despite facing many challenges, Liu has raised children from both relationships, making her both a mother and father to her children.

From a young age, Liu preferred male clothing, short hair, and was often teased and harassed for not fitting societal gender expectations. When she was 18, Liu married a man and had a son. However, soon after, she began experiencing physical changes due to an increase in male hormones, causing her to develop facial hair, a reduction in breast size, and male reproductive organs. This unexpected change led to her husband divorcing her and taking custody of their son.

Liu later moved to a different region of China, where she worked in a shoe factory and met a woman named Zhou. Despite same-sex marriage being illegal in China, Liu’s ex-husband agreed to marry Zhou in exchange for Liu’s financial support for their son. In the early 2000s, Zhou gave birth to a son, making Liu a father as well.

Liu's story went viral in 2005, and she has continued to gain attention online. Although she identifies as male, her official ID card lists her as female, and she has not undergone any gender reassignment surgery due to the high cost.

Liu’s rare condition, known as intersex, means that she has both male and female reproductive organs. Intersex is extremely rare in humans, though it is more commonly seen in plants and animals like worms and snails.

Liu’s story has inspired many people, with online supporters offering positive comments and encouragement. She remains a symbol of strength and courage, showing that one’s identity is much more than labels and expectations.
