Celebrity Chinese Pet Dog with 1.5 Million Followers Sold to Restaurant and Eaten
Chinese internet-famous dog Chutou, loved by 1.5 million followers, was allegedly stolen and sold to a dog meat restaurant, sparking outrage and calls for stronger pet protection laws.
For eight years, Chutou wasn't just a pet—he was a travel companion, internet star, and beloved family member.
The dog, owned by Chinese travel vlogger Guo, had travelled across China and won the hearts of more than 1.5 million followers online.
But in May 2026, while Guo was travelling abroad, Chutou disappeared from his family's farmland. CCTV footage showed two men taking the dog away on an electric bike.
Guo rushed back to China and launched a desperate search. Days later, he tracked down a suspect and even offered money to get Chutou back. That's when he learned the devastating truth.
According to reports, Chutou had allegedly been sold to a dog meat restaurant for just 180 yuan (around ?2,500) and had already been slaughtered.
Heartbroken, Guo filed a police complaint, arguing that Chutou was valuable enough for the case to be treated as criminal theft. Under Chinese law, theft of property worth more than 2,000 yuan can lead to criminal charges.
The tragedy sparked outrage across social media, with millions mourning Chutou's death.
For many, he wasn't just a dog—he was a loyal friend whose heartbreaking end has reignited debate about pet protection laws in China.
