Celebrities Occupy Hospital Beds in Mumbai

According to the Maharashtra minister, some Bollywood celebrities and cricketers had occupied hospital beds in Mumbai despite having no serious Covid symptoms.

On Tuesday 13th April, Maharashtra textile minister Aslam Shaikh said some Bollywood celebrities and cricketers had tested positive for COVID-19. They were asymptomatic but still they had occupied hospital beds in major private Mumbai hospitals. Shaikh said that these celebrities could have been treated at home as they had very mild symptoms but still they admitted themselves. Currently there is such a shortage of hospital beds and these beds could have been used by people who were seriously ill.

The minister said this days after cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who had tested positive for the virus last month, was discharged after spending a few days at a private hospital in Mumbai. He was later asked to isolate at home. Mumbai is severely hit by the rapid second wave of Covid infections. It has been reporting around 10,000 daily cases for some days.
