In a hate crime, a 21-year old student who is studying in Canada was attacked horribly on 17th March 2023.

A 21-year old student who is studying in Canada was attacked horribly on 17th March 2023 night in British Columbia province.

The boy, Gagandeep Singh was simply returning home after buying some groceries when he encountered a group of 12 to 15 young boys. Some news reports say that these boys were teenagers. They were following Gagandeep in the bus, they got after him at his stop and waited for the bus to leave. As soon as the bus left, the group of boys thrashed Gagandeep. As if this was not enough, they ripped off the turban from his head and took it away with them. They dragged him by his hair and left injured Gagandeep on a pile of dirty snow by the road.

When they left, Gagandeep called a friend for help. 0Gagandeep was admitted to Kelowna General Hospital. He had injuries varying from his chest, mouth, arms and legs. Mohini Singh said that Gagandeep's friends and fellow international students have been left shaken and scared by the attack. This prompted a gathering at the bus stop 19th March where they spoke out about how they feel less safe in their community. Singh said the fact that Gangandeep is Sikh and from India was "undoubtedly" a factor in the assault. "I entirely believe this is racism and it should be treated as a hate crime. This is so wrong on so many levels. This is not something that is acceptable anywhere.” The Royal Canadian Mounted Police of Kelowna said that they have already started investigating this case.
