Buried Alive Woman Called 911 With Apple Watch For Help

A 42-year-old Young Sook An from Washington saved her life using her apple watch to dial the emergency services.

A 42-year-old Young Sook An is from Washington, USA. She and her husband Chae Kyong are in for a divorce and do not live together anymore. However, he keeps coming to Young Sook’s house. They had fights over financial issues. Chae Kyong An allegedly said that he would “rather kill her than give her his retirement money.” On 16th October 2022, at around 1.00 pm, Chae Kyong came to his wife’s house, followed Young Sook into the bedroom where she had gone to change and attacked her. He punched her and duct taped her hands behind her back and placed duct tape across her eyes, thighs and ankles. However, during the assault, Young Sook was able to call 911 with her Apple watch and sent an emergency notification to her daughter and best friend. Her husband then dragged her to the garage and smashed her watch with a hammer. He then dragged her to the garage and put her in the car. Young Sook told police she was bound and taken somewhere in the car where she could hear her husband digging in the ground. He then stabbed her in the chest and put her in the ground. She alleged that 'a heavy tree was also put on top of her. After being put in the ground she could hear her husband walking around the hole and dirt/ mud being put on top of her. Young Sook said her husband told her she was going to die. Young Sook was struggling to breathe while inside the shallow grave. She tried to keep the mud off her face by continually squirming around. She was inside the shallow grave for several hours.

As the day turned to night, Young Sook was able to free herself from the duct tape. She then removed the tape from her eyes. She saw the car's window was steaming and a light was on inside. She then got up and ran for about 30 minutes and then she found a home. She hid behind the shed in the front of a house. The residents called 911 and at about 1.00am on 17th October when police arrived, they identified her as the missing female. She told the police, 'My husband is still out in the trees somewhere!' The police found the shallow grave which appeared to be freshly dug. Outside the hole was a piece of duct tape.  When Young Sook ultimately escaped, she had duct tape still wrapped around her neck, and ankles. She also had extensive bruising to her legs, arms and head and her clothing and hair were covered in mud. Meanwhile, when Young Sook had called 911, the police heard her screams which sounded 'gagged' so they rushed to her house. The house was unlocked and empty but messed up and the garage door was open. Sook Young's friend who received an emergency notification, also reached the scene. Chae Kyong An was caught and is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and assault. Young Sook pleaded with the judge to keep her husband in jail. She described her husband as 'extremely smart,' as he worked in intelligence for the US Military. She said, “Please no bail. I am really afraid for my life. I just want to emphasize that I fear him so much and he will kill me again if he is out.”
