A shocking incident came to light on 1 March 2026 in the Bakshi Ka Talab area of Lucknow when a human body was found inside the deep freezer of a small vegetarian biryani shop.

The shop, located near GCRG College on Chandra Devi Road, had been closed for four days since 26 February. Owner Shani Rawat had gone to Nikrojpur village to attend his father’s funeral. When he returned around 10:30 am on Sunday to reopen the shop and check supplies, he discovered the body inside a faulty deep freezer.

Rawat immediately informed local residents and the police. During the initial search, one slipper of the victim was found on the nearby roadside while the other was inside the shop. Police also recovered empty alcohol pouches, glasses and namkeen packets from the scene, suggesting a possible drinking gathering.

Police from Bakshi Ka Talab police station reached the spot quickly. The shop was sealed and a forensic team was called to examine the freezer and surrounding area. Officers said the body was of a man and no visible external injury marks were found at the time of recovery. The body was sent for post-mortem to confirm the exact cause and time of death.

The deceased was identified as Vijay Pal, 35, a daily wage labourer from Kishunpur Majra village in the same police area. He was last seen near his home on 28 February and had been reported missing by his family. Police said he had consumed alcohol, but the medical report will clarify what exactly happened.

Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and checking Vijay Pal’s call records to understand how he entered the shop and whether anyone else was involved. The shop owner and some local persons are being questioned, but no arrests have been made so far.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the death was accidental, natural or a crime. The case is currently under active investigation.
