A mysterious explosion was reported behind the Israel embassy in the Chanakyapuri area of Delhi on the evening of 26th December 2023. The explosion comes in the midst of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza which has caused more than 20,000 deaths so far. The Delhi police and fire officials received a call about a blast behind the embassy. According to the reports, one of the Embassy’s security guards was the sole witness to the incident. The guard said, "This happened sometime after 5pm. I was on duty and heard a loud sound, similar to that of a tyre bursting. When I came out, I saw smoke coming from the top of a tree. That's all I saw." The police have recorded his statement. With Delhi police, multiple teams rushed to the spot including the forensic officials, special cell detectives, dog squad, bomb detection team and national investigation agency. The Delhi police blocked the whole area with ropes & tapes and restricted the entry & exits. Different authorities carried out a thorough search. A police spokesperson said: "A Police Control Room (PCR) call was received conveying the information that a loud noise was heard behind the Israel embassy/Jindal house. The forensic experts have examined the spot, lifted exhibits that may have evidentiary relevance and they have been sent for examination." No deaths have been reported but according to the police reports, a letter addressed to the Israeli ambassador Mr. Naor Gilon was seized from the premises. The letter threatened Israel with retaliation and revenge and there was mention of Palestine and Gaza." The Delhi police has filed an FIR and formed a special team to investigate the case further. An embassy spokesperson said "We can confirm that there was a blast near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi (100 meters from the embassy). There were no casualties. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation by the local authorities in full cooperation with the Israeli security forces." Surprisingly just before that, the Reserve Bank of India received a threatening email on 26th December 2023 at around 2 pm about several bomb blasts in Mumbai. The email highlighted a plan to detonate 11 bombs at 11 places in Mumbai with RBI Bank at Fort, HDFC Bank at Churchgate and ICICI Bank at BKC listed as potential targets at 1:30pm on 27th December 2023. The sender of the email believes that Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das are involved in "the biggest scam in the history of India" and has demanded their resignation. The Mumbai Police immediately started the investigation but did not find any evidence of explosive devices during their extensive search. The Mumbai police has filed an FIR and has deployed officers at the said locations.
