Bengaluru: Chopped Pieces Of Woman's Body Found In Fridge

A 29-year-old Benguluru woman was murdered and her body was chopped into 59 pieces. Days later, the prime accused in her case was found dead in his village.

There are so many incidents of murders and heinous crimes that happen across India. Here’s another shocking incident that happened on 21nd September, 2024. The dismembered (cut) body of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi was found stashed in a refrigerator in Vyalikaval area of Bengaluru.

As per reports, the incident came to light after neighbours reported a foul smell coming from the apartment. They initially thought the foul smell was coming from the house because of rotten food. They informed the owner of the flat and Mahalakshmi’s family, after the stench became unbearable. The flat was locked from the outside. After everyone’s arrival, they entered the flat despite the overbearing stench and opened the fridge only to find dry blood and a dismembered body. They informed the police, who recovered 30 pieces from the 165-litre refrigerator. Maggots had infested the body, indicating it had been stored for some time. Later, a postmortem report confirmed that Mahalakshmi’s body was chopped into 59 pieces.

Mahalakshmi hailed from Jharkhand. She was identified as Hemant Das’s wife and used to live alone in the flat. She was working as a salesperson. Her husband lives separately with their daughter. The victim had moved to the flat 5 months ago after a domestic dispute with Hemant. The police say she was murdered around 4-5 days before. Later, Bengaluru Police zeroed in on Mukti Ranjan Roy as the prime suspect as he was one of the three close friends of Mahalakshmi in Bengaluru. Mukti was also her colleague. Mahalakshmi had started working at a clothing factory in Malleswaram a few months ago. Mukti, who was unmarried, was leading a team there. They were reportedly in a relationship.

On 23rd September 2024, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed that the prime accused in murder had been identified as a man from Odisha but had been living in Bengaluru, before fleeing. Investigations revealed that Mahalakshmi had not reported to work since 1st September. Mukti too had stopped showing up for work the same day. This made him the prime suspect. However, Mahalakshmi's estranged husband reportedly accused a man named Ashraf of being involved in the murder. He claimed that Ashraf had been in an extramarital relationship with Mahalakshmi. Authorities started searching for Mukti near the Odisha-West Bengal border, but his exact whereabouts were unknown.

According to local sources, on 24th September, Mukti arrived at Pandi village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district and stayed in his family home. He was last seen riding a two-wheeler in the village, at around 4 am with his laptop bag. On 26th September in the morning, locals spotted his body hanging from a tree and alerted the authorities. His body was identified and sent for a postmortem. A bag, notebook and a scooter were recovered by the police from the crime site.

A purported suicide note was found inside the notebook in which he allegedly confessed to killing Mahalakshmi and dismembering her body into pieces in Bengaluru.

Based on the suicide note, the Bengaluru police have confirmed that he is the accused in the gruesome murder case.

As per reports, cops suspected that Mukti ended his life fearing arrest in connection with the murder.

This incident is a stark reminder of the brutal murder of Shraddha Walkar by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawalla in 2022.

Aftab allegedly strangled Walkar, sawed her body into 35 pieces and kept them in a fridge for 3 weeks. ISH News had released several videos on this incident: Click here to watch:
