Bappi Lahiri & Actor Deep Sidhu Pass Away

Music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri and Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu have passed away.

Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri, known for wearing lots, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, at a Mumbai hospital. He was 69. Bappi Lahiri is known for delivering popular songs in several films of the 1970s-80s like His last Bollywood song was for the 2020 film Baaghi 3. He was known as Bappi Da. The veteran singer had tested positive for Covid-19 in April last year, after which he was confined to full bed rest. 

A wheelchair with a lift was also installed at his Juhu residence for easy mobility and convenience.

Bappi Lahiri was being treated for multiple illnesses. The legendary musician is survived by his wife Chitrani Lahiri and his daughter and singer Rema Lahiri Bansal and son bappa Lahiri. Another actor also passed away yesterday. Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, who had become famous during the farmers' protest, died in a road accident near Delhi on Tuesday, 15th February. The vehicle he was driving, a white Scorpio, rammed into a stationary truck at 9.30 pm when he was going from Delhi to Bhatinda in Punjab. The accident happened on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. Visuals from the accident site show the driver side area of the Scorpio completely pushed in by the impact.

Hospital authorities said he was brought dead. Sidhu was arrested by the Delhi Police in February last year in connection with a tractor rally by farmers on Republic Day that spiraled into violence after protesters came to the Red Fort and attacked policemen. Sidhu was accused of being the mastermind of the violence that happened at Red Fort. The farmers were protesting against three new farm laws, which were withdrawn by the center in November 2021. He got bail in April, but was arrested again just after he was released. He was released on bail a second time in late April, with a court in Delhi making it clear he has to appear for questioning whenever the police called him. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi tweeted his condolences on the actor's death. "Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, Deep Sidhu. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans," Mr Channi tweeted.
