Balochistan: Blast Targeting Train Kills at least 20 in Pakistan
A deadly suicide bombing on a train in Quetta, claimed by the BLA, has once again highlighted the rising violence and unrest in Pakistan’s Balochistan region.
A powerful suicide bombing shook Quetta, Balochistan on 24th May, when an explosives-filled car rammed into a train carrying Pakistani army personnel and their families travelling to Peshawar for Eid celebrations.
The massive blast killed around 24 people, including soldiers and civilians, and injured over 70 others.
Two train coaches overturned, several bogies were damaged, and nearby vehicles and buildings were destroyed in the explosion and fire.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying its “Majeed Brigade” carried out the suicide mission.
Balochistan has witnessed years of violence, with separatist groups accusing the Pakistani government and military of exploiting the region’s rich natural resources while neglecting local communities.
Railway routes, including the Jaffar Express, have repeatedly been targeted in militant attacks.
Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif condemned the bombing, calling it a “cowardly terrorist attack.”
