'Bald Virus’ Hits Maharashtra’s Buldhana, Over 150 Lose Hair
A mysterious "baldness virus" has caused rapid hair loss in over 150 people in Buldhana, Maharashtra, with authorities investigating possible causes like water contamination.
A strange health issue has been causing panic in Buldhana district, Maharashtra. The condition, which is being called the “baldness virus” by media, has led to rapid hair loss in many people across several villages. Areas like Kalvad, Bondgaon, and Hingna are particularly affected.
What’s Happening?
Over 150 people have already been affected, and the condition is also showing signs in around 400 more people across 15 villages. People are losing their hair very quickly, with some becoming completely bald in just three days.
One elderly woman shared that she started losing her hair a week ago and has kept the fallen hair in a bag. Another man said his hair, including facial hair, has been falling out for the past 10 days.
What Are the Symptoms?
The condition starts with an itchy scalp, followed by rapid hair loss. It is affecting both men and women, as well as children in the affected villages. Many people have reported that even a light pull on their hair causes it to fall out. In fear, some individuals have shaved their heads completely.
Investigation Underway
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of this mysterious condition. Water contamination is one of the possible causes being examined. Samples from various areas are being tested, but the exact reason for the hair loss is still unknown.
There have been reports suggesting that contaminated water, fungal infections, or reactions to certain chemicals or cosmetics might be the cause. However, initial tests on hair, scalp, and nails have ruled out fungal infections. Health professionals say these are only initial findings, and further analysis will be done.
Water Contamination
Health officials have also tested groundwater from the affected villages. While no harmful substances like arsenic or lead were found in the water, high levels of nitrates were detected in several locations. As a precaution, local authorities have advised residents to avoid using water until further notice.
Steps Being Taken
Doctors and skin specialists are working on further tests, and blood samples of over 65 villagers have been sent to labs. However, the results so far show no direct connection between the blood samples and the hair loss.
The district health system is on high alert and is working to manage the situation. Public awareness campaigns have been launched in the affected villages, urging residents to ensure they are using safe drinking and bathing water.
