Azim Premji Donates Rs 53,000 Crore

Azim Premji, the Chairman of Wipro pledges to give Rs 53,000 crore to charity. Till now he has committed a total of Rs 1,45,000 crore towards charity. The “Azim Premji Foundation” is a foundation star

Chairman Azim Premji on 13th March announced that he will donate Rs 53,000 crore to his foundation which is called the “Azim Premji Foundation”.Till now Mr Premji has committed Rs 1,45,000 Crore to charity. This is one of the biggest foundations in the world. Similar to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are worth $40 billion and the Ford Foundation is worth $12 billion.

Azim Premji was the first Indian to sign the “Giving Pledge Initiative” which was started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. According to the initiative, billionaires promise to give 50% of their income to charity. He has promised to donate the benefits he receives from 67% of all the Wipro shares. The benefits will include dividend, sale of shares,etc. By doing this, his family which includes his two sons will earn less than they did last year

The “Azim Premji Foundation” has three objectives. The foundation wants to

1)  Improve the standards in government schools

2) They want to provide low cost education in the Azim Premji University and

3) They want to support non-profit organisation in different areas.

The foundation is planning to start more universities in India. The foundation works with government schools in Karnataka, Uttrakhand, Rajasthan, Telangana, Puducherry and MP.
