Autorickshaw drivers have threatened to go on indefinite strike across Maharashtra from midnight of 8th July 2019 Monday. The union leaders had previously issued warning on 9th June. They had also given a notice to the state government a couple of weeks back, mentioning about the threat  to go on strike. They have demanded the ban on services of Ola & Uber, hikes in fares & police crackdown on illegal autos on roads. The unions demanded that the aggregator cabs should be allowed only if they fall under government regulations.

Shashank Rao, leader of the auto rickshaw Mumbai union “Chalak Malak Sanghatana Sanyuk Kruti Samiti” said that it was the Mumbai union that is going on strike. Several unions from Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Aurangabad & other parts of state will also go on strike.“It will be a major show of strength as all drivers are participating voluntarily,” he stated.

Since a month they have been sending notices & repeated reminders of their demands to the State Government. However they did not call union leaders for negotiations. He said that They are not bothered about the welfare of autorickshaw drivers. Now the State Government will be held responsible for inconvenience caused to the public.

More than 4 lakh Auto drivers in Mumbai will go on strike. The strike could hit commuters badly as three-wheelers are in great demand and required during monsoon for travel.
