Australian Player Puts His Feet On World Cup Trophy

Controversy over cricketer Mitchell Marsh's photo with World Cup trophy; PM Modi consoles Indian team after loss.

A picture that is going viral on social media shows Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh with both legs resting on top of the World Cup trophy. The photo was initially shared on Instagram by Australian skipper Pat Cummins. From there, it made its way to several social media platforms. The photo appears to be from the hotel room where the Australian team was sitting and conversing with each other at ease. Marsh had both his legs resting on top of the trophy as he showed off his gold medal. As soon as the picture went viral, people started slamming him for being ‘disrespectful’ towards the trophy. Some posted the pictures of Kapil Dev with the trophy on his head in 1983 and Sachin Tendulkar kissing the 2011 World Cup trophy. Some even shared Argentina's Lionel Messi sleeping with the 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy. Many commented that this is the difference of cultures and that lifting any World Cup is a passion and cannot be understood by all. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian dressing room after the loss in the finals. Indian players were sad and dejected after the heartbreaking loss. The PM decided to meet the cricketers to console them. He hugged Mohammed Shami and held Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s hands. PM Modi had a word with head coach Rahul Dravid. PM Modi penned a heartfelt message to the team, saying that the entire country is proud of India's campaign in the World Cup and that they stood by the team in the difficult moment. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami shared a picture of him with PM Modi. "Unfortunately, yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM @narendramodi for especially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back!" he wrote on X. Meanwhile India will play a five-match T20I series against Australia from 23rd November 2023. Let's keep supporting the Indian team.
