Assam Horror: Minor Girl Found Dead at Home; Three Arrested, SIT Formed as Investigation Continues.

A shocking crime has been reported from Hailakandi district in Assam, where a 15–16-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered inside her home. The incident has sparked protests and renewed public concern about crimes against women and children.

According to reports, the incident took place on 1 August but came to light two days later after local residents blocked National Highway 6, which connects Assam and Mizoram, demanding justice.

The victim's family said they had gone to a relative's house for a feast. The girl also attended but returned home alone at around 10:30 pm after an argument with a cousin. When her family reached home about an hour later, they found her dead inside the house.

Police said the victim had serious injuries, and the post-mortem examination indicated that she had been sexually assaulted. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team visited the spot and collected blood samples, bloodstained clothes, a sharp-edged weapon and other evidence from the scene.

After the incident, police detained five people for questioning. Following the initial investigation, three suspects were arrested, while two others were released due to lack of evidence at this stage.

Police said one of the accused is 17½ years old. Considering the seriousness of the case, they have requested the court to allow him to be tried as an adult. The other two accused have been identified as Apu Malakar (18) and Joydip Ree (19).

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of rape of a girl below 16 years of age and murder, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police said more charges may be added as the investigation continues.

Investigators have seized several mobile phones and are analysing communication records. Police said the accused were familiar with the victim's house and confirmed there had been communication between the victim and some of the accused. Reports have also claimed that one of the arrested men was the victim's former boyfriend, but police have not officially confirmed this.

Police have appealed to the public and social media users not to share sensitive information related to the case. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to carry out a detailed investigation.

Meanwhile, the victim's family and many protesters have demanded the death penalty for the accused and a speedy trial through a fast-track court.
