Asian Games 2023: India Wins Gold in Horse Riding

Indian athletes at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, secured 28 medals, including historic wins in Equestrian and Women's Cricket.

The Asian Games are also known as Asiad. The 19th Asian Games 2022 were to be held in Hangzhou, China. But due to the COVID pandemic, they were postponed and are now being held at the same place from 23rd September 2023 to 8th October 2023. This is a multi-sport event held every fourth year by athletes from all over Asia. There are more than 61 sports being played like wrestling, cricket, sailing, shooting, Equestrian, fencing, javelin throw, boxing etc. The first Asian Games were held in New Delhi, India in 1951. The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are considered as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games. A 655-member Indian contingent are competing in 39 sports. Till 29th September 2023 morning, the Indian athletes have already bagged a total of 28 medals - 7 Gold, 10 Silver, and 11  Bronze medals so far. Here's the list of achievements of Indian athletes. The Indian team created history by clinching a historic gold medal in Equestrian. This is India's first equestrian gold medal in 41 years. Indian Women's Cricket Team grabbed Gold by beating Sri Lanka in the finals.This was the first time Indian Women’s team participated in the Asian Games. India’s men’s cricket matches would start on 3rd October 2023, directly in the quarterfinals as India has a higher rating. Breaking a world record, the Indian team also clinched Gold in Men’s 10m air rifle shooting. Indian teams have won medals in Shooting, Rowing, Cricket, Sailing, Equestrian, Wushu, Tennis. These remarkable achievements show the dedication and skill of Indian athletes on the global stage, and their successes continue to inspire a nation.
