Angry Protest in Chembur over Man’s Suicide

The Apathy of the police led to a frustrated a Shoemaker’s suicide in Chembur, Mumbai.

Pancharam Rithadia was a shoemaker who lived in Chembur's Thakar bapa colony. His 17 year old daughter was missing for more than 6 months. He filed a complaint at the Nehru Nagar police station but for the last 6 months the police have done nothing. The family suspects the girl has been trafficked.

Pancharam was very worried for his daughter. He had said that those who had kidnapped his daughter were harassing and threatening him.Yesterday he committed suicide by jumping in front of a local train  

He left a suicide note. In the note he said that he was very worried for his daughter. 

People in Chembur were very angry and this is why they started protesting and throwing stones at the police. 

To control the crowd they had to lathi charge at the crowd. A protestor said that this was not a suicide it was murder because of the police had helped Pancharam would be alive.
