The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday passed two Bills to expedite the delivery of justice in cases of sexual crimes. The Bills are called Andhra Pradesh Disha Bill. According to the BIll, the death penalty will be given to rapists and rape cases must be completed within 21 days. This Bill was passed because of the brutal rape of the Veterinerian doctor in the state of Telangana. The girl’s name was then changed to Disha to keep her identity a secret. This is why the Bill was called the Disha Bill.

The law deals with cases such as rape, acid attacks, stalking, voyeurism, social media harassment of women, sexual harassment and all cases under the POCSO Act. The Bill says investigation must be completed within seven working days and court trial in 14 working days. This is so that judgement is announced in 21 days.

If a person rapes or performs any sexual crimes against children, they can even be given life imprisonment.

If a woman is harassed on social media sites or on the internet, the person will be given two years in jail. The second bill that was passed says that 13 special courts will be set in various districts of AP to deal with crimes against women and children. The Bill has been sent to President Ram Nath Kovind for his approval, after which it will become a law.
